Subtitling

25-27 January 2008
Follow-up

The PhD Seminar on subtitling proceeded from the problem area of subtitling (technical framework, problems of space & time, speed, text condensation, generously offered by Mary Carroll and her team at the Titelbild premises in Berlin), gave an overview of research which try to solve these problems by Professor Yves Gambier (Turku University).

Perspectives on research methodologies, contrasting the Liberal Arts Paradigm (LAP) with the Empirical Science Paradigm (ESP) were offered by Professor Daniel Gile (ESIT, Paris). Discussions followed on research and basic methodologies as well as claims, merits and limitations of the two lines of research.

A presentation of Yvonne Griesel on Hybrid Forms of Translation in Film and Theatre at the impressive Humboldt University lecture hall with a hospitality welcome hosted by Professor Larisa Schippel rounded off the evening of January 26th.

Many thanks to our host, sponsors and speakers!
